TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB GOAL:  To help students master district standards and develop into mature, able, and responsible citizens

 

RESPONSIBLE TO:  Principal

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.  Must hold an appropriate Kansas teaching license
2.  Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university required
3.  Must be willing to be trained in areas deemed necessary

 

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:

1.  Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking
2.  Repetitive motions
3.  Physical exertion to manually move, pull, or push heavy objects or materials
4.  Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds unassisted
5.  Stooping, bending, reaching, kneeling, and turning
6.  Occasional work in noisy, crowded, stressful environments with numerous interruptions
7.  Driving skills and physical ability to operate motor vehicles including ability to operate at night
8.  Must be able to work indoors and outdoors year round

 

TERMS:

1. Length of contract determined annually by the Board of Education
2. Salary and benefits determined annually by the Board of Education

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.  Support the district’s vision, mission, and values

2.  Implement all policies and statutes as determined by various governmental agencies, the Kansas State Department of Education, and the local board of education

3.  Implement research based instructional strategies as adopted by the board of education and defined in school improvement plans

4.  Teach to district standards that are adopted by the board of education

5.  Establish and maintain a positive climate for learning and ensure a safe and orderly environment through appropriate classroom management practices
6.  Demonstrate an awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual differences

7.  Plan and implement lessons using time, materials, and resources effectively

8.  Monitor the assessments of individual students and student groups on district standards and use data to make decisions within the context of the school improvement process

9.  Attend and assist with the coordination and supervision of student events and activities

10.  Initiate the district’s student intervention process for students requiring educational support

11.  Supervise students as assigned

12.  Develop an atmosphere of respect, trust, interest, and enthusiasm within the school

13.  Communicate openly and effectively with students, community, parents, staff, and administration

14.  React to change productively, positively, and effectively

15.  Work cooperatively and constructively with others within the organization

16.  Promote positive working relationships with parents and patrons in the community

17.  Attend professional meetings and serve as a member of various district level committees as required

18.  Procure supplies and equipment following district defined purchasing/budget procedures

19.  Keep abreast of local, state, and national trends and research by attending staff development conferences and reading professional literature

20.  Perform other duties as required and/or assigned by the principal or other administrative staff
