RESPONSIBLE TO: Supervisor of Operations
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or equivalent 2. Valid CDL license with required endorsements - training available 3. Meet all state and district requirements for bus drivers, including defensive driving, CPR, and first aid certification 4. At least one year experience in driving some type of motor vehicle (which may be a private automobile), including experience throughout each of the four seasons 5. Successfully complete behind-the-wheel training 6. Desire to continue career improvement by enhanced skills and job performance
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:
1. Requires prolonged sitting 2. Requires driving skills, including operating vehicle at night 3. Physical exertion to manually move, pull, or push heavy objects or materials 4. Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds unassisted 5. Stooping, bending, reaching, kneeling, and turning 6. Must work indoors and outdoors during the school year 7. Must work in noisy, crowded, stressful environments, with numerous interruptions 8. Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors
TERMS:
1. At will
2. 9 month position
3. Morning and afternoon routes, 3 hours per day 4. Wage and benefits determined annually by the Board of Education
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Support the district’s vision, mission, and values
2. Implement all policies and statutes as determined by various governmental agencies, the Kansas State Department of Education, and the local board of education
3. Provide clean, safe, and reliable transportation to ensure students benefit from district programs and activities 4. Ensure all activities conform to State school transportation guidelines
5. Operate all vehicles and equipment as necessary
6. Maintain discipline when students are on the bus and report those students who do not obey rules to the proper authorities
7. Keep assigned bus clean
8. Check bus before each operation for mechanical defects and notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure
9. Discharge students only at authorized stops
10. Exercise responsible leadership and good judgment when on out-of¬-district school trips
11. Transport only authorized students
12. Report all accidents and complete required reports
13. Enforce regulations against smoking and eating on the bus
14. Respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner
15. Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and the community
16. React to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting deadlines as assigned
17. Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed by the supervisor of operations
